New door in Newcastle
Are you looking for a new door in Newcastle upon Tyne? Here are the Pros and Cons
When buying a new door you have a few options based on what would suit your requirements best. We have repaired and fitted new door in Newcastle and surrounding areas for over 8 years now and In this article we aim to help you get a better understanding of the options available to you so you can make the correct decision for you.
UPVC Doors
This is a recent door we supplied and fitted in Newcastle. Our customer was had a budget to refurbish this property therefore required a cost effective door.
Pros: Cost effective – UPVC doors are normally lower in cost, market research we carried out shows sometimes as much as 50% cheaper than Composite or aluminium doors.
Stylish – There are a lot of designs available for UPVC doors from modern, traditional look and even different colours to suit your taste.
Reliable – We repair composite, UPVC , Wooden and aluminium doors regularly and would rate a UPVC door as the more reliable of the door options available.
Cons: Security – UPVC doors with full length panels inserted have a weakness, if enough pressure is applied the panel will push through.
Stylish? Although we previously stated that stylish was a pro factor of buying a UPVC door in relation to Composite doors there are less styles available due to the popularity of the composite doors.
Composite doors
Pros
Security-
Composite doors are made using a variety of materials uPVC, foam, wood, and GRP (glass reinforced plastic) creating a solid slab instead of the panel insert on a UPVC door, therefore making them incredibly secure.
Stylish – Composite doors are the modern alternative to the UPVC door so because of this the industry tends to focus on creating different designs and styles more frequently than the UPVC doors.
Cons
Costs – Composite doors are more expensive to purchase as opposed to UPVC doors, This may be down to the length of time they have been around. This might be something that changes when raw material costs are bought in scale or the amount of companies involved in manufacturing of the door slab itself increases or when demand plateaus.
Reliability – We have visited a lot of customers over the years with composite door issues and one of the main issues the customers have is the slab of the door catching on the frame. This is a result of heavy door being hung on a plastic frame putting to much pressure on the hinges or inadequate installation. In UPVC door installation the fitter has more room for adjustment with the lighter door and can adjust the inner door sash to accompany the outer frame with a technique known as Toeing and heeling. In a Composite door there is only the minimal hinge adjustment available and if the frame is not perfectly aligned the installation will suffer future problems. Hopefully with pioneering research and development in the near future their will be a lighter alternative available with the same security benefits.

Upvc utility door mechanism not operating by handle
Excellent from start to finish! Contacted Dan for a non-emergency door repair on Friday evening. Phone was answered promptly and professionally. We quickly agreed a time for the repair for 10am the followed morning. Dan arrived on time and set straight to work. He very quickly had the door opened (with no damage) to gain access to the faulty mechanism, for which he had a spare on the van. Door back up and running within an hour of arriving. Would definitely use Dan again.

Locks replaced in front door and window lock repaired
Voted no.1 Locksmith service 2017-2021
I have used Dan a number of times for locks, main door and a window lock fixed. Every time Dan has been on time or early and is so quick to do a repair! He is courteous and extremely helpful and has also at times charged us less than we expected due to discovering the issue wasn’t as serious as originally thought. Can’t recommend high enough, don’t go anywhere else, we certainly won’t be!
Patio doors wont open.
Our patio doors would not open as the handle was just spinning. Dan came out and said he could replace the locks but as they were old it would be expensive Gave me price secured the doors free of charge and said no pressure let him know. I asked how much to replace and as price was only a few hundred more for totally new doors said do it. This was Monday dinner time and Friday doors were fitted. Really friendly fast efficient quality service and I would have no problem using Keyglaze again His rating is no mistake he is really really good
