5 top tips to prevent a break in this Xmas

We attend over 30 domestic break-ins per year in the Newcastle upon Tyne area. I have compiled a list of 5 easy steps to prevent your home from being broken into. If you would like to discuss any of the methods further or would like any more FREE advice please call 0191 9086053

1. Don’t showboat! – Burglars are normally opportunists, If they see a window or door open or high value items on display they might seize the moment.

Our advice – Close the blinds. Make sure you close windows and doors and don’t leave laptops, mobile phones or other high ticket items on display.

2. Social media

We all love to show off our holiday pics on Facebook, twitter or other social media outlets while everybody else is enjoying the miserable British weather but criminals use social media to ensure nobodies home.

Our advice – Don’t do it. When you post your pictures make sure its after your holiday and everybody knows it on your post.

3. Visual deterrents

If potential criminals see your home is secure and a neighbour’s isn’t, the chances are they we miss out your home all together.

Our advice – There are a number of visual deterrents including : CCTV, Alarms, Signage to show that you have a security feature in place or security grills and fencing.

4. Secure it

If you have took all measures to deter criminals but they still want to have a go..

Our Advice – Secure it correctly:

Upgrade to laminated glass (takes more force and noise to break)
Upgrade your door locks ( Anti-snap, drill and pick)
Upgrade door handles ( Anti-snap and key hole cover)
Upgrade letter box cage
Install window sash jammers or restrictors to prevent the window being opened from the outside

5. Don’t Leave a Spare Key Out

It may seem like a good idea to leave a spare key hidden under a flower pot or doormat in case you get locked out of your house. But that’s an open invitation for a burglar to walk inside without any difficulty. Someone could also see you retrieve the key at some point, giving away your hiding place.

Our advice – Install a key box and only give trusted friends or family the code to access it

Double glazing repairs Newcastle – A customer from Cramlington called as she had an issue with her UPVC door, We arrived on site and the door had jammed in the locked position. This is a common problem that we come across daily and we specialise in opening the door non0destructivly and replacing any failed parts. On this particular occasion the gearbox/centre case on the multi-point locking system had failed. We opened up the door and sourced the parts for the job. the complete turn around for the job was one hour and the customer was thrilled that the door could be fixed and she didn’t have to buy an expensive new one.

A customer from Wallsend called us out to repair his UPVC door lock, in this case the full multi-point locking system had failed and jammed the door in the open position. We got the new parts and repaired the door we upgraded the cylinder and the customer was very happy

Misted glass replaced North shields

This job was a lady from North shields that had mist built up in all of double glazed units. This means the double glazed unit has broke down and allows moisture to the sealed unit. We measured the old Glass and ordered the replacement units, When the glass arrived we went out that day and changed the glass. The customer was very pleased with the end result.

Door repair in Newcastle

This customer couldn’t lock their door without having to pull the handle with great force which resulted in the handle snapping. We put a new handle set on and adjusted the hinges so the door locked properly again. Another happy customer.

Used Dan few times now. Excellent service. Excellent work. We had several windows in a rental property that wouldn’t open and shut . We were going to get them replaced as they were old. But Dan was able to repair and replace the hinges and made them good as new. And a door mechanism was causing issues with locking the door, replaced in no time. A lot of his materials are on his van so many occasions you will get a quick fix.

Dan was excellent from the very start, he arrived on time for the quote he was friendly and polite. The quote was reasonable so I booked him in the following week. Again he arrived on time and they worked quickly and efficiently and I couldn’t be happier with the finished product! I’m a single mum so I’m nervous when tradesmen have to come into my house, Dan put me at ease straight away and I would highly recommend him.
